Electronic X-ray Safety Training Course

Welcome to the Environmental Health and Safety X-ray safety training course. This course is required for all users and supervisors of analytical and radiographic X-ray equipment. This training takes part in four stages:

  1. Read the online training module that covers the fundamental principles of radiation, radioactivity, X-rays, biological effects, and radiation safety. The online portion of the training will take approximately 1.5 hours to complete.
  2. Take the online X-ray safety training quiz. The quiz is multiple choice and open note. A score of 70% or greater is required for passing.
  3. Sign-up online for the practical class.
  4. Attend the Practical class at 229 Academic Projects Building. This part of training is an opportunity to answer any questions you may have and receive instruction in radiation survey instrument use.

Below is the link to ANGEL where you can get started on the online stages of the X-ray training. Please follow these steps:

Please remember to print out a copy of the dosimeter request form  PDF Document. Penn State requires all analytical and radiographic X-ray users to wear a personnel dosimeter. Complete the information requested, and have you supervisor approve and sign the form. Bring the dosimeter request form with you when you are scheduled to complete the practical part of the training.
