Asbestos Blockplans
University Park Campus

Known Buildings With Asbestos Containing Ceiling/Wall Plaster, Spray-on Fireproofing/Coatings, Ceiling Tiles and Transite Panels

DO NOT PRINT THIS LISTING AND ASSUME CHANGES NEVER OCCUR. UPDATES ARE ADDED CONSTANTLY.

UPDATE (3/3/03) - IF A BUILDING IS NOT SHOWN ON THIS LISTING, DO NOT ASSUME THERE IS NO ASBESTOS IN THE BUILDING.

These Asbestos Blockplans DO NOT include the following asbestos containing materials, which are commonly found in most University buildings:

  • Thermal insulations such as pipe, boiler, tank, or duct insulation; these are assumed to contain asbestos unless they are obviously fiberglass or foam rubber.
  • Resilient floorings (i.e. 12"x12" and 9"x9" Floor Tile, Linoleum, etc.); these are also assumed to contain asbestos
  • Soapstone Lab Bench Tops are also assumed to contain asbestos.
Note: Many of these materials are above drop ceilings or encased in walls and are not readily visible.

If needed, more specific locations of asbestos containing materials can be obtained by calling Environmental Health and Safety at 865-6391 (863-1111 after 5 P.M.).

For more information on recognition and identification of other common asbestos containing materials and regulations, see the Identification/Quick Reference for Asbestos-Containing Building Materials link on the EHS Asbestos Webpage.
