Hazardous Materials Shipping
Contact: Barry Cowher, cowher@ehs.psu.edu814-865-6391

The Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations for the shipping of hazardous material across town or across the country are very specific and detailed. Fines for failure to properly package and document the shipment are levied against the person shipping the material, not against the institution. If you need to ship material to another institution, contact our office well in advance so that the necessary paperwork can be obtained and generated. Please send an e-mail with the following information:

  • Your name and your supervisor's name.
  • Your address, phone number and email address, department, and college
  • The recipient's name, address, phone number, email address and institution name
  • The budget number or FedEx number to which the shipping costs should be charged.
  • The specific chemical name and the quantity of material,
  • Any special shipping requirements (such as "dry-ice required")

If you are planning to ship outside of the United States, allow additional time for the shipment.
